Edo Ukpong is a seasoned commercial law practitioner, well reputed in the areas of energy and natural resources, corporate structuring and international business. He is one of few Nigerian Lawyers with specialist training and expertise in Competition and Regulatory Law.

Admitted:

  • Admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1985, he began his legal career as a State Counsel in the Lagos State Ministry of Justice in 1985
  • Proceeded to the University of Uyo, Nigeria, where he worked as an Assistant Lecturer in the Faculty of Law between 1986 and 1987.
  • In 1987, he joined the law firm of Ajumogobia, Okeke & Oyebode as an Associate and resigned in 1991 to co-found the Firm.

Experience:

  • Edo Ukpong advises international oil companies, oil service, as well as upstream and downstream oil companies. Along with two other colleagues, he produced a draft Local Content Bill in 2002 for the National Assembly; and the key provisions of the 2002 draft are reflected in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act, 2010.
  • He is the pioneer Chairman of the Competition Law Committee of the Section on Business Law, Nigerian Bar Association; and served as a member of the technical committee established by the Securities and Exchange Commission for the Review of Capital Market Structure and Process in 2008.
  • Edo Ukpong holds directorships in reputable companies including Heerema Marine Contractors Nigeria Limited and as Chairman, Ashrami Synergy PLC.
  • He is also a member of the National Executive Council of the Nigerian Conservation Foundation and was appointed a board member of the Federal Capital Development Authority in 2018. He is a regular commentator on Nigeria’s socio-economic and political issues, and the author of “Swimming Against the Tide”, a collection of essays.
