The focus was to create an enabling platform where lawyers of similar disposition and worldview could enjoy legal practice in a conducive professional environment that encouraged individual excellence through teamwork and team spirit.
From inception, we resolved to build a solid institutional reputation based on individual responsibility and strict adherence to the ethics of our profession. This was the guide to subsequent recruitment all through the years and we have not wavered despite the temptations of the challenging environment.
As part of the objective to depersonalise and institutionalize the firm we have metamorphosed from Ukpong & Omotoso to Consolex Legal Practitioners and by a formal change of name Ukpong and Omotoso became CLP LEGAL in 2017.
We have grown from a 2 lawyer and 2 support staff law firm to one of the leading law firms in Nigeria with lawyers practicing from offices in 4 cities and most importantly our reputation as trustworthy and honourable professionals have been solidified in the esteem of our clients and professional colleagues.
Although the firm was registered in 1990, we commenced practice from our own offices on April 1st, 1992, exactly 27 years next Monday. I have managed the firm since inception and having taken it this far with the support of my partners and entire body of Associates and Support Staff, it is time to try another driver for our vehicle. Just as vehicle models are changing and new driving techniques required, so is the nature of legal practice.
It is my pleasure to introduce to you the new Managing Partner of CLP Legal, Mr Okechukwu Egbuchu. Okey joined the Firm in April 1994 and has been an exemplary and dedicated team player as well as a resourceful and consummate professional. He is well regarded in the industry and is the embodiment of the values the firm stands for. Okey is a council member of the Section on Business Law of The Nigerian Bar Association.
Apart from our desire to make a living from legal practice we also desired to contribute our quota to national development building institutions. We know it is still work in progress and this is an important step in that quest.
On a personal note, it has been a fulfilling journey so far. I am rededicating myself to continuing my contribution to building the firm as a team member, mentor, resource person and I am excited at learning new ways from the millennials who have energised and now drive the Firm.
